Philosophy of Teaching
A teacher is just like a gardener who plants the seeds, watering and nurturing them. All these seeds are different, some need more sunshine and some need to stay in greenhouse. Moreover, not all of them need to water as frequently. These seeds are just like students who are unique and individual. Our job is to plant and nurture seeds that will grow and shape the future.
Each child is unique and learn differently.
A good teacher should respect and understand students on how they learn and develop. I believe that students do not all learn in the same way or same pace, rather a good teacher should have the responsibility to understand the student’s interest, abilities and prior knowledge to design more effective lesson plan to challenge every student to think and grow.
Teachers have to improve themselves consistently.
I believe a teacher is the most influence of role models of students. You are the mirror of your students. As a good teacher cannot continue to inspire learning without being a learner. Teacher must constantly learn what is new in your teaching subject, learn and create new knowledge from conferences, media, research studies, and, perhaps most importantly, colleagues. Continuously examine your teaching methods and find new ones. To remain connected to students, the teacher must be a student of society and the constantly changing worlds in which students live. Teacher should be willing to learn from students as they learn from the teacher.
Teaching is performance art.
Teachers and performers are all on the stage. Performers needs to communicate with audience through their music, art presentation. The teachers communicate with their students depend on the quality of the teaching they give in class, day in and day out. If the teacher pays attention to voice articulation and body language, just as an actor would, it will engage your students, capture their interest and motivate them.
Love your teaching and love your students.
Teaching is a challenge and a joy. It is a lifelong process of reflecting and making necessary adjustments. To be a good teacher you have to love teaching. A healthy relationship between the teacher and students is essential for successful teaching. To love your students is getting to know their individual needs and wants, building rapport with them, and special teaching method to apply in flexibility.
For myself, teaching is an opportunity for continual learning and growth, as an educator needs passionate, strong and dedicated personality who are excited about working with students.
